MT Elbrus - Europe’s Highest Peak 18,505 ft(5642 m)

High Altitude Mountaineering

Mt Elbrus, located near the border of Georgia and Russia, is considered by most to be the highest mountain on the European continent. Located just along the border of Europe, it is in the midst of the Caucus mountain range. With its reputation it is no wonder why most of Russia’s mountain guides come to Elbrus to train. Although it is not a very technical mountain it does give one an idea of what life is like above 15,000 ft.

INTINERARY

Day 1
Arrival at St Petersburg airport.
Transfer to a hotel “Europe”.

Day 2
09-00 a.m. – Leaving the hotel.
11-40 a.m. – flight to Min Vody.
02-35 p.m. – Meeting at Min Vody airport. Transfer to a private hotel “Essen” on glade Cheget. Accommodation and dinner.

Day 3
Acclimatization hike to the Terskol gorge, direction to "Novy Krugozor"(2900m). Lunchbox. Return to the hotel. Dinner.

Day 4
Climbing to the tourist's hotel "Gara Bashy" (3800 m) by cable-ways "Elbrus" and "Gara-Bashi". Accommodation and lunch. Acclimatization hike till base "Priut 11" (4200m). Returning to Gara-Bashi, dinner.

Day 5
Climbing for acclimatization to Pastukhov's rocks (4800 m). Returning to the climbers hut Pruit II. Transport gear to the Pruit II hut with the snow machine. Dinner.

Day 6
Climbing to a top of Elbrus (5642m). Descent to Gara-Bashi. Dinner.

Day 7
Spare day for climbing. Descent to a hotel on glade Cheget.

Day 8
Transfer to the airport.
03-50 p.m. – flight to St. Petersburg.
06-45 p.m. – landing in St. Petersburg.
Transfer to the hotel “Europe”.

Day 9
10-00 a.m. – drive to Pushkin town, Catherine’s Palace in Pushkin town (inside famous Amber Room).
13-00 a.m. – lunch time in the restaurant Podvorie. Fixed menu.
03-30 p.m. – Yusupov’s Palace where Rasputin was assassinated.
06-00 p.m. – back to the hotel.

Day 10
10-00 – the Hermitage museum, Gold Room.
Full day in Hermitage. Local Lunch
17-00 – back to the hotel.
19-00 – Theatre performance in the Mariinskiy Theatre. (1 ticket about 100$ - good seats).
22-00 – back to the hotel.

Day 11
Depart St Petersberg for USA
