High Altitude Mountaineering

On the border between Chile and Argentina lies the highest point outside of Asia, Aconcagua (22,830ft / 6,980m). The mountain was first climbed in 1869 via the north ridge or what is today called the “Ruta Normal”. In 1934 a strong Polish team climbed the glacier on the East Side of the peak. Traverse parties will cross towards the Normal Route. After reaching the summit, all teams descend Aconcagua via the Normal Route (on the north side).

The traverse from Plaza Argentina to Plaza de Mulas gives us access to both routes. From our high camp at White Rocks we will have the choice of routes on the upper mountain, increasing our chances of success.
